Frequently asked

Honest answers.

Fifteen questions, sorted by what people actually ask. Nothing's hidden — write us if there's a sixteenth.

The product

How is this different from Blinkist or Headway?+

Book-summary apps compress a book into fifteen minutes. Catalyst expands an idea into seven days. The point is the opposite of efficiency: we want you to sit with the idea long enough that it changes shape. If you finish a Catalyst path feeling that you were spared the thinking, we did it wrong.

How is this different from a meditation app?+

Meditation apps train attention. Catalyst trains judgment. Closer to a slow magazine than to Calm or Headspace — though the visual language is intentionally in that neighbourhood, because the user is the same person on a different day.

How is it different from a course platform?+

Courses are open-ended. Catalyst paths have an end. Most courses sit unfinished. Catalyst is built to be finished — short paths, daily cadence, audio that plays in the background. We'd rather you complete one short path than enroll in five long ones.

The content

Who writes the lessons?+

Curated paths are commissioned from practitioners who teach the material for a living — psychologists, classicists, decision researchers. Every lesson is reviewed twice before publishing and narrated by a human voice. No LLM is on the publishing path.

What's a "custom" path? Is that AI?+

Yes — and we mark it as such. Custom paths run through a three-stage AI pipeline (blueprint → script → polish), then are narrated by the same human voice cast as the curated paths. They take about ninety seconds to generate. You can request any topic that can fit in a sentence.

What does a path actually feel like over 7 days?+

Seven lessons of 10–14 minutes, paced however you like — most people listen to three a week, some go a-day-a-day. Each lesson is one idea, not a quiz. The last day always ends with a small practice you can keep after the path closes.

Why audio-first?+

Because the moment of opportunity is on the way somewhere. The headphones are already in. You have ten minutes and they'll pass either way. We make every lesson available as text, too — but the form that survives a real life is audio.

The app

How do I get it?+

On the App Store. iPhone or iPad, iOS 16 or later. The free tier — one curated path, Day 1 audio, no time limit — opens the moment you install. No signup required to start reading.

Is there an Android version?+

Not yet. iOS first — that's where a small team can hold the craft bar highest. Android is on the roadmap. If you want a note when it lands, leave your email at the bottom of the home page.

Can I read or listen on the web?+

Day 1 of Stoicism is readable, with audio, at catalystlearn.app/lesson. The full library lives in the iOS app.

Pricing

What will it cost?+

Annual: $89.99 / year, with a $59.99 welcome offer (33% off) shown once after you sign up. Monthly: $7.99 / month. There's a real free tier — one curated path, Day 1 audio, no time limit. Full breakdown on the pricing page.

What if I cancel?+

Your library stays — every path you've started or finished is still readable and re-listenable. You just lose the ability to start new paths and generate custom ones. Resubscribe any time, pick up exactly where you left off.

Education or low-income pricing?+

If the price is the only thing in the way, write info@catalystlearn.app with a sentence about your situation. We'll figure it out.

The principles

Why no streaks?+

Because the moment a streak matters more than the lesson, the app is working against itself. We'd rather you return three days a week, calmly, for ten years, than crush a 365-day streak and never come back. The streak shows up as a sentence: "You've returned three days in a row." That's it.

Why no recommended-for-you feed?+

Because the feed is the thing we made this app to compete with. If you came in for one lesson, that's what you should leave with. No related tray, no autoplay, no "you might also like." We trust you to come back when you want to.

Where do my notes / progress live?+

On your device, and in your Catalyst account. Notes export to plain text. Progress export to JSON. No lock-in. You can take everything you've made with you on the way out, with no friction.
